10 simple home remedies for a dry throat

Before we start on how to get rid of dry throat let’s understand what is a dry throat is and why it’s caused?

Rough, scratchy and itchy sensation in our throat is referred as dry throat. It often occurs during the cooler months of the year, it triggers itchiness and irritation in the area beyond back of the tongue called pharynx and it can result into fever, cough or running nose. Dry throat is majorly caused by following reasons:

  • · Irritation of mucus membrane.
  • · Lack of fluid in your body.
  • · Sleeping with open mouth.
  • · Breathing through your mouth.
  • · Living in a dry area.
  • · Smoking or consumption of caffeine and alcohol.

There could be several reasons for dry throat and several ways to cure it; the first step to get rid of dry throat is to increase the intake of fluid as this is the most common reason for drying your throat hence this is the most likely step to follow. Make sure you drink a lot of water and keep your body hydrated. Apart from that there are other home remedies that can get help you:

1. Saltwater Gargle: 

Add a tea-spoon of salt in a cup of lukewarm water and gargle with this salt water mixture for about a minute for 1-2 times daily to get better results. Make sure to spit out the liquid after gargle.

 

2. Tea with honey:

Add a teaspoon of honey in any regular tea and drink it. Anti-bacterial property of honey helps in curing dry throat.

 

3. Natural tea: 

Mix 2 tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoon of vinegar, dash of cinnamon and 2 tablespoon of lemon juice in a cup of hot water and drink it. It works exceptionally well for dry throat.

 

4. Syrup of Honey and Ginger: 

You can take a table spoon of honey and grated ginger together, let them settle for a couple of hours and then you can consume this mixture, it will help you with sore throat.

 

5. Ginger tea: 

You can add inch ginger to any tea while preparing it and drink it warm. It will reduce the roughness of the throat. You can take this tea 2-3 times a day.

 

6. Apple cider vinegar: 

Take 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoon of organic Apple cider vinegar, mix them well and consume it. You can take this 2 times a day.

 

7. Lemon juice and Coconut Oils:

Another home-made remedy is to make syrup by mixing 3 tablespoon of lemon juice and ¼ cup of honey with 2 tablespoon coconut oil. This syrup with help you in soothing your throat and boost your immunity.

 

8. Honey and Milk: 

Mix 2 tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm milk and drink it before going to bed. This remedy will help you with sore throat; it reduces irritation and helps in getting rid of scratchiness very effectively.

 

9. Horseradish Cocktail:

Try this Russian remedy, mix 1 tablespoon of horseradish or horseradish root with 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon ground cloves in a glass of warm water and drink slowly.

 

10. Turmeric: 

Turmeric is one of the best antiseptic in the world. You can mix 1//2 teaspoon of turmeric in a hot glass of milk and drink it before going to bed. This will help you with sore throat as well speed up recovery of any other injury in the body.
